VIENNA (18 October 2010). – At Vienna’s Congress Center Messe Wien the gates of the “VIENNA-TEC 2010” closed on Friday evening (10/15). The progress and results of the third issue of Austria’s largest and most significant industrial trade fair, which is organised every two years by Reed Exhibitions Messe Wien, have been anticipated with great interest. “The majority of exhibitors showed to be very satisfied with the progress of the fair”, reports Matthias Limbeck, topical manager at Reed Exhibitions Messe Wien. “Since the German economy recovery has set in, Austria’s economy is also gaining momentum this year. Companies slowly begin to take their feet off their investment brakes. Here, one has to consider that the developments that are observed today in Germany take their effect in Austria only with a certain delay, on average with app. 6 months. Overall however, as this trade fair has shown, the trend clearly tends towards the positive.”
Visitor Survey: Discernible OptimismThis estimation is also confirmed by the survey of the fair visitors, carried out by an independent market research institution. With the question, how the visitors evaluated the current economic situation of their industry, almost two thirds (62.5 per cent) stated to be very satisfied with it. Just as many were of the opinion that the situation will improve over the next twelve months. “With this we can interpret the progress and result of this year’s “VIENNA-TEC” as a pleasant sign of economic revival for Austria’s industrial economic activities”, Matthias Limbeck sums up positively.
Significant Share of International Trade VisitorsFrom October 12 to 15 app. 570 direct exhibitors and also roughly 600 represented companies from Austria and abroad presented the most important technological novelties and trends at the “VIENNA-TEC”. As is well known the “VIENNA-TEC” has combined the six major industry fairs “AUTOMATION AUSTRIA”, “ENERGY-TEC”, “IE INDUSTRIEELEKTRONIK” (IE – Industrial Electronics), “INTERTOOL”, “MESSTECHNIK” (Metrology) and “SCHWEISSEN/JOIN-EX” (Welding / Join-Ex) under its roof since 2006. A combination which this year has motivated exactly 30,280 registered trade visitors to attend the fair. “This are indeed 12 per cent less visitors than two years ago but the decrease can be explained in large part with the fact that the companies visited the trade fair with smaller delegations than in previous years to save costs”, explains Christian Friedl, head of the business section Fairs at Reed Exhibitions. Apart from the evaluation of the registration receipts this is also confirmed by the results of the visitor survey: almost two thirds of the visiting companies (62.1 per cent) sent only one to three employees to the fair. “VIENNA-TEC” fair director Eveline Sigl rates the high share of international trade visitors of 17.5 per cent as especially pleasant. The numbers of trade visitors from Hungary (18.3 % of the international trade visitors), Slovakia (13.3 %) and the Czech Republic (5 %) stood out.
Survey: High Significance as Information PlatformOverall, four of five trade visitors showed to be very satisfied with the fair in the survey (school grades 1 and 2 = 80.5 %; plus grade 3 = 96 %), almost all (96.2 %) stated to intend recommending the fair to their business partners as information platform. The surveyed fair visitors emphasised the following criteria in extra praising: large number of products, meeting point and cultivation of contacts, overview of market and providers, gathering of information, alignment of the fair with market developments, interesting product novelties, large number of exhibitors per industry and large number of novelties. 89.2 per cent of visitors surveyed declared to be decision makers (determining / co-deciding plus consulting).
Guiding Theme Energy Efficiency and Attractive Side-ProgrammeThe guiding theme “Energy Efficiency” was the central topic of the “VIENNA-TEC” for the first time – the trade visitors were offered an attractive side-programme with numerous highlights throughout all four fair days. The diverse programme “VIENNA-TEC Impulse” saw an intense inflow – a total of app. 1,100 trade visitors participated in app. 20 different events. A separate event was geared specifically to the demands of companies in Austria’s neighbour countries from Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe. In turn, countries from Central-Eastern and Eastern Europe like Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, the Ukraine and Belarus made successfully use of the opportunity to present themselves in the context of the side-programme.
Successful Premiere of the International Matchmaking EventAn absolute highlight proved to be the international matchmaking event on the first fair day in the Congress Center Messe Wien which was carried out in cooperation with Außenwirtschaft Österreich (Austrian Foreign Trade Promotion Organisation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber WKO), Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft (Austrian Research Promotion Agency), Enterprise Europe Network and Reed’s distribution partner in CEE, Schwarz & Partner. In the context of this international cooperation exchange the possibility was offered to initiate cooperations and research projects in the area of manufacturing technologies in bilateral meetings between representatives of small and medium sized enterprises, the industry and research institutions from all over Europe. “We have met our goal to bring numerous companies and industrial and economic chambers from different regions to Vienna to enable them to gather information about new developments from the industry on-site”, Viatcheslav Konchine from the distribution partner Schwarz & Partner stated satisfied. Delegations and visitors from, amongst others, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Croatia and Poland, as well as councillors of commerce and high-level diplomats from the Republics of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan were present. “Numerous talks and negotiations have taken place between the participants, we have registered a very positive response”, reports Viatcheslav Konchine.
JOIN-EX-2010 – Trade Congress for Welding and Joining TechniquesIn the context of the “VIENNA-TEC”, the international trade congress of the “Schweißtechnische Zentralanstalt” (SZA, Institute of joining, welding and testing), the “JOIN-EX 2010”, took place which focussed on the latest products, technologies and developments from the areas Filler Metals and Gases, Quality Assurance, Vehicle Construction and Hybrid Joining Technology. “Partly, we have experienced a rush that has been unseen in the past years, and the visitor quality was very high”, Sylke Kanits, responsible project manager of JOIN-EX, stated satisfied.
Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Invited to a Congress on Industrial Safety Another congress, held by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection (BMASK), circled around the topic Safety at the Workplace. In the context of the European campaign “Healthy Workplaces – Safe Maintenance” BMASK presented the diverse aspects of maintenance for promoting healthy and safe workplaces.
Tremendous Interest for Technical Special ExhibitionsThe special exhibition “High Precision Hard Turning” at the stand of the tooling specialist Wedco in Hall B, where the use of high precision hard turning was demonstrated, was received with great interest. In addition to Wedco, the companies Gerhard Rauch, Westcam Datentechnik, Zoller Austria, Schirnhofer Werkzeuge und Maschinen and GGW Gruber & Co participated actively in the individual manufacturing steps in the course of the process chain. Further special exhibitions circled around the topics “Elra-Art/Kunstwerk und Designobjekt” (“Elra-Art/Piece of Art and Design Object”), “Erlebnis Messtechnik” (“Experience Metrology”), “Lebende Werkstätte” (“Living Workshop”), “Hi Speed Lineare Antriebssysteme” (“Hi Speed Linear Drive Systems”) and “Studieren in der Werkstatt” (“Studying in the Workshop”).
Summary: Confidence for Further Positive Economic Development“When we summarise all data and statements in a first evaluation the “VIENNA-TEC 2010” was successful. The mood was characterised by a moderate upswing which, one can confidently assume, will further intensify next year”, Reed Exhibitions Manager Matthias Limbeck summarises the fair. The focus of the fair organisation team of Christian Friedl and Eveline Sigl lies already on the year 2011 where two top-flight industry events are on the agenda: one is the trade fair for electrical engineering, “Power-Days”, which will be taking place from April 6 to 8 at Messezentrum Salzburg; the other is a fixed date for industrial automation, “Smart Automation”, which will be taking place from October 4 to 6, 2011, at Design Center Linz.
